Slovenia Gearing Up for New Refugee Arrivals

Slovenian government and civil organisations are gearing up for new arrivals of refugees at its border with Croatia in the coming days, after processing around 3,000 refugees, most of those who had arrived in the first wave on Friday and the weekend.
Although currently there is only a small refugees arrival at the Slovenian border with Croatia and the Slovenian authorities say there have been no announcements of mass transfers, Slovenian authorities is frequently monitoring the data on arrivals in countries downstream to deal with the possible huge arrivals, according to the Slovenian Press Agency (STA).
Earlier reports said the rail transport from Croatia to Slovenia was suspended and the traffic at the border crossings were temporarily blocked in order to avoid unexpected cases of large-scale arrivals.
Slovenian Interior Ministry State Secretary Bostjan Sefic estimated the number of arrivals to the border with Slovenia in the coming days ranged from under 1,000 and up to 3,000.
The Slovenian authorities have said they will use the time in between what is expected to be a new wave of arrivals to make preparations, including at the Obrezje border crossing and the nearby Brezice registration centre.
A review of procedures is being conducted and improvements are expected to be taken in areas which have been found lacking in the past days, Sefic was quoted by the STA report.
Moreover, the various organisations participating in the efforts to deal with the refugee crisis, including police, Civil Protection Service and non-governmental organisation are using the current respite to replenish stocks of key necessities.
The Institute for Commodity Reserves said it had so far released reserved of around 5,000 litres of milk and nearly 100,000 litres of water, as well as 1,636 folding beds and 135,000 items of various toiletries and medical supplies.
Supplies remain sufficient, except for beds, which have run out, the report said, meanwhile, new municipalities have announced efforts to organise accommodation for refugees arriving to the country.
