Air strike kills 7 militants, wounds 7 in W. Afghanistan

Seven Taliban militants, including a group commander, were killed as a pilotless plane targeted Taliban a hideout in Obe district of the western Herat province, spokesman for provincial government Ahsanullah Hayat said Monday.

"Acting upon intelligence report drone attacks conducted against Taliban hideouts in Obe district on Thursday, leaving seven rebels, including group commander Sayed Jalil, dead on the spot and injuring seven others," Hayat told reporters.

Jalail, according to the official, was involved in numerious subversive activities including killing security personnel, and his death could be a major setback to the insurgents in the western region.

Taliban militants fighting the government have yet to make comment. Endi
