Benzema saves blushes as granada make Real Madrid work as Atletico also win

A solitary goal from Karim Benzema gave Real Madrid a narrow 1-0 win at home to Granada on Saturday afternoon.

Real had beaten Granada 9-1 in the corresponding fixture last season, but anyone expecting a repeat performance was to be let down and Granada were unlucky to see a legal goal wrongly ruled out for offside in the first half.

Both keepers made some good saves before Benzema headed in a cross from Isco shortly after the start of the second half.

Atletico Madrid ended Eibar's unbeaten start to the season with a 2-0 win the Ipurua Stadium thanks to goals from Angel Correa, who scored his first goal for the club after 62 minutes, and Fernando Torres.

Atletico now have nine points from four games and are just a point behind their neighbors, although Barcelona will go top if they win at home to Levante on Sunday.

Valencia's poor start to the season continued as they could only draw 0-0 at home to recently promoted Betis, despite their visitors playing for nearly all of the second half after Dani Ceballos was sent off.

Valencia have only scored twice in their first four league games this season and the draw comes on the back of a disappointing home defeat in the Champions League on Wednesday night.

Imanol Aguretxe scored Real Sociedad's first goal of the season as they entertained Espanyol, but it was not enough to give them their first win of the campaign as they lost 2-3 to Espanyol.

Espanyol drew level from the penalty spot through Gerard Moreno in an action that saw Real Sociedad keeper Geronomo Rulli sent off and Enzo Rocco put the visitors ahead with a header with 20 minutes remaining.

Jonathas must have thought he had saved his side a point with an 86th minute volley, but poor marking then allowed the visitors to steal all three points in the last minute of normal time.

Malaga have not scored this season and their inability to hit the target saw them lose 1-0 away to Getafe on Friday night after Stefan Scepovic scored the only goal of the game in the opening minutes. Endi
