Air strikes leave 15 militants killed in NW Pakistan

Xinhua, September 20, 2015 Adjust font size:

At least 15 militants were killed in an air strike launched by Pakistani army in the country' s northwest tribal area of Khyber Agency on Saturday, local Urdu media reported.

Dawn TV said that the troops backed by jet fighters pounded four militants' hideouts in Tirah Valley area of Khyber Agency, a restive tribal area along Pakistan-Afghanistan border.

The killed militants are said to be members of outlawed outfits Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Lashkar-i-Islam.

The strike came a day after a deadly attack at Pakistan Air Force base in Peshawar city left 42 people including 13 militants killed and 29 others injured. The attack was claimed by the TTP.

Saturday's air strike is the continuation of the Khyber Agency operation being launched by the Pakistani army since October 2014.

According to local media tally, over 500 militants have been killed and more than 400 surrendered in the operation which was conducted in two phases -- operation Khyber 1 and Khyber 2. Endi
