Italy pledges loan for development projects in Myanmar

The Italian government has pledged a 22.5-million -U.S. dollar loan for the development projects in Myanmar, official media reported on Saturday.

The loan will cover for infrastructure projects in 215 village tracts in Kachin, Kayah and Shan states as well as Bago region in the country to expand access to electricity, water, sanitation services and healthcare, according to the Global New Light of Myanmar.

The agreement on providing loan was signed by the Italian ambassador to Myanmar Pier Giorgio Aliberti and U Khant Zaw, director-general of Rural Development Department, in Nay Pyi Taw on Friday.

The program is one of several rural development projects being implemented by the Myanmar government, including the Emerald Green project, which seeks to raise incomes and alleviate poverty in rural villages around the country. Endi
