Mexican president meets family members of tourists killed in Egypt

Xinhua, September 19, 2015 Adjust font size:

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto on Friday met in private with the families of the eight Mexicans who were killed in Egypt after local military and police opened fire on a group of tourists on Sunday, the Mexican Presidential Office said.

Pena Nieto reiterated his condolences and said his government would offer "support along with all the necessary consular, legal and administrative assistance during the returning of their deceased loved ones," the presidential release said.

The Mexican government has also called for full reparations for the victims and their family members in accordance with appropriate international standards, the press release said.

The Mexican tourists were mistakenly shot by Egyptian security forces near Bahariya Oasis in the country's Western Desert. Six survivors returned Friday aboard the Mexican presidential plane.

An Egyptian security raid at Bahariya Oasis in the Western Desert late Sunday evening killed 12 tourists by mistake, including Mexicans and Egyptians, and injured 10 others. Endi
