The Nepalese government on Friday declared a two-day public holiday for the nation-wide celebrations of the new constitution.

A meeting of the Council of Ministers presided by Prime Minister Sushil Koirala on Friday decided to celebrate the occasion of the constitution promulgation with lighting candles across the country and Nepali diplomatic missions abroad during the holiday on Sunday and Monday, according to a government spokesman.

President Ram Baran Yadav is scheduled to unveil the new constitution on September 20 at a special ceremony to be held at the Constituent Assembly building.

Country's Constituent Assembly approved the new constitution on Friday as a long-awaited dream of Nepalese people fulfilled after 70 years.

The constitution-making body of Nepal endorsed the constitution bill with an overwhelming two-thirds majority on Wednesday night.

A federal, secular and democratic republic Nepal will have seven provinces and each with its own legislature, according to the new constitution endorsed by the CA.

This is the first full-fledged constitution in the Himalayan nation after it became democratic republic in 2008. Earlier, the country got an interim constitution in 2007 following the people's movement in 2006 that toppled the 240-year monarchy.
