Coach Samson Siasia's Nigeria will have something to smile about after they won the football bronze medal at the 2015 All Africa Games on Thursday.
In a play-off game played at the Stade Alphonse Massemba-Debat Stadim, Nigeria beat hosts Congo 5-3 on penalties after the game had ended goalless.
Although the two sides missed several scoring chances, Nigeria's Mustapha Abdullahi had an open chance after 33 minutes when he failed to place the ball past Congo's goalkeeper.
The Nigerians played without injured players Etebor Oghenekaro, Ndifreke Effiong, Umar Aminu and skipper Azubuike Okechukwu.
Etor Daniel, Sodiq Atanda, Kingsley Sokari, Erhun Obanor and Christian Pyagbara all converted their penalties for Nigeria's Dream team as they are called.
Nigeria's goalkeeper Emmanuel Daniel saved skipper Sagesse Babele's penalty kick. Georges Bidimbou, Silvere Ganvoula Mboussy and Ulsy Boukama Kaya converted their penalties for Congo.
"We are happy that we have a medal to take back home. We had hoped to win the gold, but failed to do certain things right," Coach Siasia told Xinhua after the game, adding that he will make changes to the team for the 2016 Olympic qualifiers. Endi
