Indian PM sending special envoy to Nepal with new constitution to come

Xinhua, September 18, 2015 Adjust font size:

Indian Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar is arriving in Nepal on Friday as special envoy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a two-day visit just two days before the much-delayed constitution promulgation through the Constituent Assembly.

Nepal's Foreign Ministry spokesman confirmed that the Indian special envoy will hold separate meetings with Nepali President Dr Ram Baran Yadav and Prime Minister Sushil Koirala.

A senior Nepali government official told Xinhua that Jaishanker is also expected to have meetings with the disgruntled Madheshi parties who have been intensifying protests over the weeks against the new constitution in Nepal's Southern plains bordering India.

According to reports, India's foreign minister Sushma Swaraj has stated that Nepal's new constitution fully owned by and accommodating the aspirations of all regions and sections of the Nepalese society will lay a durable foundation for a peaceful and prosperous Nepal and will become the focal point for Nepal's bright future.

India has lauded the role of the political leadership of Nepal in the constitution drafting process. Endi
