Vietnam officially inaugurates biggest thermal power plant

Xinhua, September 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Vietnam officially inaugurated its biggest thermal power plant in central Ha Tinh province on Thursday.

The Vung Ang 1 coal-fired power plant with a capacity of 1,200 MW comprises two turbines, according to the website of Ha Tinh provincial authority.

The first turbine has been put into commercial operation since Dec. 2014 and the second one in May 2015.

The plant is set to consume some 2.9 million tons of coal per year and contribute some 7.2 billion kWh of electricity to the national grid per year.

Construction of the plant started in 2006 with Vietnam's National Oil and Gas Group (PVN) as the investor and Vietnam Machinery Installation Corporation (Lilama) as the main contractor. Endi
