Barcelona target Gabriel fires Santos

Xinhua, September 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Barcelona target Gabriel scored twice as Santos defeated Atletico Mineiro 4-0 in Brazil's Serie A championship on Wednesday.

The 19-year-old struck either side of half-time before Ricardo Oliveira and Marquinhos Gabriel also found the net.

The result lifted Santos to seventh in the standings, nine points behind Atletico, who remained second.

Barcelona acquired a first option to sign Gabriel as part of the deal that took Neymar to the Camp Nou in 2013.

Earlier this week the striker said he had not given up hope of joining the Catalan club.

In other Brazilian Serie A matches on Wednesday, Palmeiras won 4-1 at Fluminense, Joinville drew 1-1 at home to Sport Recife, Ponte Preta won 2-1 at Goias, Cruzeiro drew 2-2 at home to Vasco da Gama, Gremio won 2-1 at Atletico Paranaense, Internacional beat Corinthians 2-1 and Avai won 1-0 at Figueirense.
