Syrian president blames EU countries for refugee crisis

Xinhua, September 17, 2015 Adjust font size:

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has blamed the European countries for the crisis of the Syrian refugees.

In an interview with Russian media outlets aired Wednesday, al-Assad said Europe is "guilty" because "it's not dealing with the cause" of the refugee crisis.

"As for Europe, of course it's guilty. Today, Europe is trying to say that Europe feels guilty because it hasn't given money or hasn't allowed these people to immigrate legally, and that's why they came across the sea and drowned," Assad said.

The president said that the European countries deal with the situation in Syria with double standards, saying they support the very terrorists, from which the Syrians are fleeing the country.

Europe is not dealing with the cause of the current refugee crisis, al-Assad said, adding that all Syrian people want is "security and safety."

As a result of the long-running conflict, the Syrians are fleeing the country to Europe in droves.

Hundreds of Syrians are leaving the country on daily basis, taking the risky illegal trip from Turkey to Greece and other European countries to seek refuge. Endit
