Uganda names squad for Sevens rugby Olympic Games qualifier

Uganda on Wednesday named the squad of the women's rugby 7s team that will take part in the 2016 Olympic Games qualifier in South Africa scheduled for Sept. 26-27.

"We know hosts South Africa are a good side, but we need to remain focused," head coach Allan Musoke told Xinhua on Wednesday after naming the squad.

The coach explained that it will be a very competitive qualifier because it is only the team that finishes top that books a place for the 2016 Rio Olympics Games in Brazil.

Uganda are pooled alongside hosts South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia and Zambia.

Musoke, a former national player said although Uganda has never qualified for the Olympics, the women' s team have made it to the Rugby World Cup 7s in 2009 in Dubai.

Star players Brenda Kayiyi, Charlotte Mudoola and Charity Atimango have been named on the team.

The squad includes Brenda Kayiyi (Black Panthers), Charity Atimango (Thunderbirds), Charlotte Mudoola ( Black Panthers), Claire Anena (Black Panthers), Emmanuella Oroma (Walukuba Titans) and Grace Auma (Walukuba Titans).

The other team members include Harriet Kayonjo (Thunderbirds), Hildah Nyiraguhirwa (Entebbe Sharks), Irene Nzige (Thunderbirds), Odoyi Mary Kyoita (Thunderbirds), Prossy Nakakande (Black Panthers), Samiya Ayikoru (Thunderbirds). Endit
