Zambia names provisional squad for CAF under-23 Championship

Zambia U-23 national soccer team trainer Fighton Simukonda has picked a 25-man provisional squad for commence preparations for the 2015 Africa under-23 Cup of Nations Championship, the country's soccer governing body said on Wednesday.

Zambia have been drawn in Group A with hosts Senegal, South Africa and Tunisia while Group B has Algeria, Egypt, Mali and Nigeria.

The invited players are expected to report for residential camp on Sunday, September 20, according to a statement posted on the Football Association of Zambia website.

"The training camp has been called to start preparations for the Senegal Under-23 Championship. It is going to last until Thursday (September 24) after which players will return to their clubs. We expect two or three of such week long training camps before the boys go into full residential camp," Ntweto Tembwe, the association's spokesperson said.

The full team is as follows:

Goalkeepers: Toaster Nsabata (Zanaco), Kenny Mumba (Red Arrows), Lawrence Mulenga (Kabwe Warriors)

Defenders: Kapotwe Kayawe (Nkana), Boyd Mkandawire (Napsa Stars), Solomon Sakala (Kabwe Warriors), Benard Mapili (Zesco UNITED), Billy Mutale (Power Dynamos), Benedict Chepeshi (Red Arrows), Mweene Mumbi (Green Buffaloes).

The eight-nation Olympic Games qualifying championship will be played from November 28 to December 12 in Senegal with the three medal winners securing slots at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games in Brazil.
