Senegal beat hosts Congo to book All Africa Games football final

Xinhua, September 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Senegal have booked a place in the finals of the 2015 All Africa Games football competition after seeing off hosts Congo 3-1 in a semifinal game played on Tuesday.

Ibrahim Keita netted a brace, while Cheikhou Dieng netted the other to make sure Senegal left the Stade Alphonse Massamba Debat Stadium in celebration.

Dieng gave the West Africans the lead after 16 minutes with a well taken overhead kick that goalkeeper Christopher Mafoumbi failed to stop.

Keita made sure he scored his second goal of the tournament after 37 minutes. But the hosts fought back strongly and controlled the game before pulling one back after 55 minutes through Merveil Ndockyt.

Congo tried to throw men up-front, but the Senegal team held on strong before Keita made it 3-1 with a header after 88 minutes.

To reach the semi final stage Senegal were runners-up to Nigeria in Group B. They held defending champions Ghana to a 0-0 draw before drawing 1-1 with Nigeria.

The football competition attracted Congo, Burkina Faso, Sudan Zimbabwe, Nigeria, Ghana and Senegal, while Egypt pulled out. Endi
