Mozambique armed forces express irritation towards accusation of attack involvement

Xinhua, September 16, 2015 Adjust font size:

Mozambican armed forces said on Tuesday in Maputo that they are irritated with the position of certain media outlets that accuse them of being involved in the Saturday attack against the motorcade of Afonso Dlhakama, the leader of the main opposition Renamo.

A Mozambican journalist reported that the attack took place when Dhlakama's motorcade was returning from the rally in the central province of Manica.

Some media stories said the attackers were members of the Rapid Intervention Unit (UIR), the Mozambican riot police.

The armed forces said that this attitude reinforces its belief that some diplomatic missions operating in Mozambique are dedicated to destabilizing the country. Endit
