1st LD: Twin bombings kill 8 in Syria's Hasakah

At least eight people were killed and over 40 others wounded on Monday in twin bombings that rocked Syria's northeastern province of Hasakah, state news agency SANA reported.

A woman and her two children were among the killed, when two explosions rattled the neighborhoods of Khashman and Mahatta in Hasakah, said SANA.

Meanwhile, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the first explosion rocked a checkpoint manned by Kurdish fighters, while the second one was caused by a booby-trapped vehicle that tore through an outpost of the pro-government National Defense Forces in central Hasakah.

The state-run TV also aired footage of the blast sites, showing scenes of destruction.

On June 25, Islamic State (IS) militants unleashed a major offensive, storming the southern part of Hasakah. At the end of July, the Syrian army and Kurdish fighters managed to drive IS militants out of the province. Endit
