Cambodia could face flash flooding in eight cities and provinces next week due to the impact of a predicted typhoon off the central part of Vietnam, according to a statement from the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology on Friday.
According to the weather forecast, a typhoon will be brewing over the coast in the central part of Vietnam on Sunday, the statement said.
"The impact of this storm will cause heavy rains across Cambodia from Sept. 15 to 18 and some cities and provinces - Phnom Penh City, Kampong Speu, Kandal, Takeo, Kampot, Preah Sihanouk, Kampong Thom, and Siem Reap provinces - could face the risk of flash floods," said the statement signed by Water Resources and Meteorology Minister Lim Kean Hor.
Heavy rains and strong winds are particularly predicted for coastal areas, causing waves from one to two-and-a-half meters.
The statement urged fishermen and maritime tourists to suspend their sea trips from Sept. 14 to 18 in order to avoid any possible danger. Endi
