DR Congo army to resume cooperation with UN mission against rebels

Xinhua, September 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) army will soon resume cooperation with the UN Mission in Congo (MONUSCO) in the operation against the Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR) rebels, an official said Thursday.

"We are already in talks with MONUSCO over resumption of cooperation on the ground," government spokesman Lambert Mende told a press conference in Kinshasa.

He added the government decision to temporarily halt cooperation with MONUSCO was not driven by any "ill intentions".

"The only reason that pushed us to stop collaboration was to protect the image of our military force which was facing baseless accusations," Mende said.

FDLR fighters have in the last one week intensified guerrilla attacks against security forces and civilians in North Kivu province, east DR Congo.

The UN has urged rapid resumption of collaboration between the MONUSCO and DR Congo army. Endit
