Peninsula security on agenda of ROK-New Zealand FM talks

Xinhua, September 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

The foreign ministers of New Zealand and the Republic of Korea (ROK) will discuss the security situation on the Korean Peninsula in talks in New Zealand this weekend.

Foreign Minister Murray McCully said Friday that the official visit by ROK Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se was an important opportunity to strengthen New Zealand's relationship with one of its most valuable partners in Asia.

"(South) Korea is New Zealand's sixth-largest trade partner with total two-way goods trade of 4 billion NZ dollars (2.52 billion U.S. dollars) in 2014. It is also a significant source of tourists and international students," McCully said in a statement.

"Our talks will also focus on regional and global security issues, especially the situation on the Korean Peninsula."

New Zealand and the ROK signed a free trade agreement in March, and ratification is underway on both sides, he said. Endi
