Aussie held for concealing gun at S. Philippine airport

Xinhua, September 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

An Australian national was arrested for trying to smuggle a handgun out of a southern Philippine airport on Thursday, police said on Friday.

Ian Maxwell Parker was about to board a Philippine Arlines plane for Manila when aviation police held him at the Davao International Airport in the southern Philippine city of Davao, some 950 km south of the capital, said Antonio Rivera, Southern Mindanao police regional spokesperson.

Rivera told Xinhua that airport security personnel found the dismantled Llama .380 caliber pistol tucked inside a red trolley luggage owned by Maxwell during a routine security screening check.

"The luggage was further physically examined by airport personnel in the presence of the Australian who claimed the gun was a collector's item," said Rivera, adding that the foreigner was subsequently arrested and charged for failure to present documents authorizing him to possess the weapon. Endi
