Families of the firefighters who died during the Tianjin warehouse explosions will get some compensation, authorities said Thursday.

According to the civil affairs department of the Binhai New Area, the families of the martyred firefighters from Tianjin Port will be compensated 2.3 million yuan (about 370,000 U.S. dollars).

A total of 164 people including 98 firefighters and 11 policemen were killed in the blasts, while hundreds of people remain in hospital. Nine people are still missing.

Currently, the first batch of 55 firefighters were posthumously recognized as martyrs, and the second group of martyrs will be recognized soon, the department said.

Two blasts ripped through a warehouse at around 11:30 p.m. on Aug. 12 in Tianjin Port, where large amounts of toxic chemicals were stored. Endi
