17 likely to be punished for car accident killing 9

Xinhua, September 11, 2015 Adjust font size:

Punishments have been recommended for 17 people following a car accident at the Shenzhen airport that killed nine people and injured 24 more, according to an investigation report released Thursday by the Shenzhen government.

On March 1, a red sedan ran over pedestrians near Terminal 3 of the airport, killing five at the scene and injuring 24 others who were standing on a viewing platform. Four died later in hospital.

The investigation report found negligence of local police departments and Shenzhen Airport (Group) Co., Ltd. The platform is part of a driveway, not designed for pedestrians.

The report suggested punishments, including administrative penalties, for 17 people, including police officers at the airport and managers of the company who were in charge of safety supervision.

The driver, a 24-year-old woman surnamed Yang, was among those killed in the accident. The report said that Yang was responsible for the accident due to her manner of driving and speeding. Endi
