China funds West Africa's largest referral hospital in Niger

The Nigerien capital, Niamey, will soon have the largest referral hospital in West Africa, whose construction has been funded by China to the tune of 66 million U.S. dollars.

Speaking on Wednesday when he visited the hospital's construction site, Niger's President Mahamadou Issoufou said he was satisfied with the pace of construction which was over 85 percent.

The hospital which will have a capacity of over 500 beds, has been constructed on a land measuring 16 hectares in northern Niamey, by Chinese company CGC.

The construction work is expected to be completed in the next few months.

The hospital will offer all services which will include emergency and cardiology. It will have 12 operating rooms, a laboratory and blood bank.

Currently, Sino-Niger cooperation covers political, economic, energy, cultural, security and infrastructure sectors. Endit
