Hong Kong authorities bust people-smuggling syndicate

Xinhua, September 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Hong Kong's law enforcement agencies have busted a syndicate that allegedly smuggled Vietnamese people into Hong Kong, local radio reported on Thursday.

Eighteen people were arrested in the joint operation conducted by police and the Immigration Department, including a Hong Kong resident of Vietnamese origin who is believed to be the head of the syndicate.

Six of the arrested people are illegal immigrants from Vietnam, said the report.

The syndicate arranged one or two boat trips from Vietnam each month, and about 10 people were smuggled into Hong Kong on each trip. Those who arrived were given work in wet markets or as cleaners, it added. Endi
