Argentine President Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner expressed hopes on Wednesday for her country to join the BRICS bloc, which groups Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.

She made the plea during a ceremony in Buenos Aires where she was accompanied by her chosen successor, the governor of the Buenos Aires province, Daniel Scioli, and former Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.

After praising Lula's accomplishments over two terms as head of state, Kirchner asked him to become "an ambassador for Argentina to be integrated into BRICS and for turning it into BRICSA."

Argentina is the third strongest economy in Latin America, after Brazil and Mexico. Endi
