Eight-time Brazilian Serie A champions Santos rose to sixth in the league standings on Thursday with a 3-0 victory over Sao Paulo.

David Braz and Rafael Longuine netted first-half goals before Ricardo Oliveira completed the rout just after the interval.

Former Brazil striker Oliveira is by far the competition's top scorer this season with 16 goals from 23 matches.

The result at the Vila Belmiro stadium means Santos now have 37 points from 24 matches, just one point less than fourth-placed Sao Paulo.

In other matches on Wednesday, Fluminense drew 1-1 at Coritiba, Internacional beat Palmeiras at home 1-0, Gremio drew 1-1 at Corinthians, Atletico Mineiro defeated Avai 2-0, Atletico Paranaense drew 1-1 at Figueirense and Vasco da Gama won 1-0 at Ponte Preta. Endi
