Xinhua, September 10, 2015 Adjust font size:

Myanmar police force is planning to introduce security measures nationwide in four phases with the upcoming general election set for Nov. 8 and deploy nearly 20,000 police force in three sensitive regions and state of Mandalay, Yangon and Kachin alone.

The security measures are to be taken for four periods namely pre-election period, campaigning period, election period and post- election period for the stability and successful holding of the election, according to the Union Daily Thursday.

A total of more than 4,510 specially-trained police force members will be used for Mandalay region, which account for 50 percent of the region's police strength, Mandalay regional police chief Han Tun was quoted as saying.

A total of 5,688 well-trained police force members will be introduced for Yangon region, more than double used in the last general election in 2010, while in northernmost Kachin state, over 800 special police force members will be mobilized to guard polling in such areas as Myitgyina, Bahmo, Moenyin and Puta O, other local Dailies reported.

Myanmar's nationwide election campaign is picking up momentum as political parties began campaigning Tuesday, two months before the upcoming general election.

Under the arrangement of the Union Election Commission (UEC), political parties have started to broadcast their party polices, political stance and objectives of entering the election through the state-operated Myanmar Radio and Television (MRTV).

The campaigning period is allowed to last until Nov. 6, two days before the holding of the election.

The election commission has designated 1,171 constituencies for the vote at four levels of the parliament across the country and a total of 6,189 candidates will run the upcoming general election. They include 5,866 nominated from 92 political parties and 323 independents, according to available figures so far.

Some 32 million eligible voters across the country are expected to cast their votes in 41,000 polling stations across the country on the election day. Nationwide electoral rolls are set to be released on Sept. 14.

Meanwhile, international observers are being invited to monitor the election. Endi
