Two Indian border guards wounded in skirmishes with Pakistan on Kashmir LoC as their heads prepare to hold talks

Two Indian border guards including a junior level officer of Border Security Force (BSF) were wounded Wednesday in skirmishes with Pakistani counterparts on Line of Control (LoC) - dividing Kashmir, officials said.

The border guards were wounded in Nowgam sector of frontier Kupwara district, about 125 km northwest of Srinagar city, the summer capital of Indian-controlled Kashmir.

"Today afternoon two BSF men including an officer of the rank of sub-inspector were wounded in Nowgam sector in a sniper attack carried out by Pakistani troops," a police official posted in Kupwara said.

India's official broadcaster- All India Radio (AIR) said military and BSF personnel retaliated in a befitting manner.

The latest cease-fire violation has come at a time when a delegation of Pakistan Rangers headed by its Director General Major General Umar Farooq Burki has reached New Delhi to meet India's Director General of BSF Devendra Kumar Pathak for high- level talks aimed at reducing tension along LoC and International Border (IB) in Kashmir.

The talks are scheduled to begin on Thursday and will conclude on Saturday.

Indian military spokesman Lt Col Manish Mehta said cease-fire violation was reported in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch as well.

"Unprovoked cease-fire violations by Pakistan army along the LoC in Krishna Ghati sector started Tuesday at around 11:15 p.m. ( local time) and continued until 1:00 am Wednesday," Mehta said. " Pakistan fired automatics and heavy machine gun fire and we retaliated appropriately."

However, in this exchange no casualty or damage was reported on Indian side.

Both New Delhi and Islamabad accuse each other of resorting to unprovoked firings and violating cease-fire agreements. And both sides maintain that their troops gave befitting reply to the other side. Endi
