Manneken Pis to wear traditional Chinese suit on Oct. 13

Xinhua, September 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

One of Brussels' most popular tourist attractions, the Manneken Pis statue, will be dressed up in a traditional Zhongshan costume on Oct. 13 as part of a series of events to celebrate links between China's Hong Kong and Belgium.

The 61cm bronze sculpture of a urinating boy in the city center will wear the specially designed tunic suit, which will be unveiled by Hong Kong's Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development, Gregory So Kam-leung, during his visit to the Belgian capital.

Manneken Pis will don a black Sun Yat-sen jacket bearing the Brand Hong Kong logo, a dragon with colored ribbons, coupled with a pair of black jeans and red shoes with white laces, and a tablet computer in the boy's hand.

A spokeswoman for the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels told Xinhua Wednesday: "We first presented the City of Brussels with a Hong Kong suit for the Manneken in 2012, to mark the 15th anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. We are delighted the costume will be making a second outing to celebrate the friendship between Belgium and Hong Kong."

She added: "The design of the suit embodies the east-meets-west aspect of Hong Kong in a way that is instantly recognizable."

The City of Brussels has 800 different costumes for Manneken Pis, which are applied to coincide with national holidays, festivals, historical anniversaries and foreign visits. Endit
