Kyrgios dumped from Australia's Davis Cup semifinal squad

Australia's bad boy of tennis has been dumped from the country's Davis Cup squad on Wednesday, ahead of Australia's crucial clash against Britain later this month.

Nick Kyrgios, ranked Australia's second best tennis player and number 37 in the world, has been dropped for the semi-final which includes a match-up against world No. 3 Andy Murray.

Instead, Bernard Tomic has been recalled to the squad, just two months after being suspended from the team.

The 22-year-old Tomic holds an impressive 14-2 win-loss record in Davis Cup matches and, since impressing with good form and good behavior on court, has been re-called to join the team in Scotland.

Australia's Davis Cup captain, Wally Masur, said Tomic was a straight swap for Kyrgios.

Masur said the decision was mutual between the team and Kyrgios, saying it was an opportunity for the 20-year-old to focus on his personal and professional development.

"After some good healthy discussion with Nick and his team, we have agreed on a plan to help him develop all aspects of his game and ensure a long and successful future in the sport," Masur told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) on Wednesday.

"Next week's tie has come a bit too soon for him and he is not in that plan."

Kyrgios has been under the spotlight since Wimbledon in July, where he had a series of on-court issues with match officials.

Also, last month Kyrgios was slammed by tennis players and the world's media after aiming a shocking sledge at top-5 player Stan Wawrinka regarding his dating life.

He was sanctioned by ATP for his behavior.

The Davis Cup tie begins in Glasgow, Scotland on Sept. 18. Endi
