Xinhua, September 9, 2015 Adjust font size:

Bangladesh's export income in the first two months of the current 2015-16 fiscal year (July 2015 to June 2016) grew 4.71 percent to nearly 5.38 billion U.S. dollars, an official said Wednesday.

The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) official, who preferred to be unnamed, told Xinhua that the South Asian country earned a total of 5.38 billion U.S. dollars from export during July-August of 2015-16 fiscal compared to 5.14 billion U.S. dollars in the same period a year earlier.

Quoting the EPB data, he said export performance for August was 2.76 billion U.S. dollars, 27.73 percent higher than that in the same month a year ago.

The official said overall export growth dipped to single digits as demand for made in Bangladesh garment items have not began to pick up yet.

He said readymade garment exports from Bangladesh grew at a moderate rate of over 6 percent to nearly 4.49 billion U.S. dollars in the first two months of the current 2015-16 fiscal year.

Bangladesh set its export target in 2015-16 fiscal year at 33. 50 billion U.S. dollars including 27.37 billion U.S. dollars from readymade garment products. Endi
