Swiss unemployment rises to 3.2 pct in August

The Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) said on Tuesday that the confederation's unemployment rate rose to 3.2 percent in August, up from 3.1 two months ago.

Figures show that at the end of August 136,983 people were registered as unemployed in Switzerland, with 3,229 additional people looking for a job compared to July this year.

SECO furthermore reported that the country's unemployment rate in August 2015 represented a 6.7 percent increase in relation to the same period last year.

According to SECO, the number of jobless individuals aged between 15 and 24 years old registered a 19.7 percent rise compared to July as an additional 3,377 individuals from this age bracket declared themselves as jobless to local authorities in August.

Similarly, the number of signed up jobseekers in Switzerland rose by 1,730 people from July to August, reaching 192,669 people by the end of last month.

SECO said the number of listed job opportunities in the country increased by 553 in August to reach 10,905. Endit
