Colombian police seize one ton of cocaine at Bogota's int'l airport

Xinhua, September 8, 2015 Adjust font size:

Colombia's criminal investigation and narcotics police said here Monday that one ton of cocaine was seized at Bogota's international airport El Dorado from a cargo flight bound for Mexico City.

According to an official statement, the drug was hidden inside 40 sacks and covered with zinc oxide in the cargo flight AM0762, operated by Copa Airlines, which was found thanks to information provided by the Colombian attorney's office and the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).

A video with the seized drug was released and shows the 40 boxes packed with plastic bags full of cocaine. No one has been detained for the crime as of yet.

Preliminary information shows that the seized drug may belong to criminal cartels in Bogota and Cartagena with connections to Mexico's drug cartels.

Colombian authorities reported that the drug was destined to be distributed in the United States and Europe through Central America.

Mexican police reported that they seized 961 kilos of cocaine using the same method last week. Endi
