Eight Tajik policemen killed in attacks linked to senior defence official

Xinhua, September 5, 2015 Adjust font size:

Eight police officers were killed in Tajikistan early Friday in attacks by a terrorist group on the outskirts of the capital Dushanbe and in the town of Vahdat, just outside the capital.

Information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs indicated that the terrorist group which had seized arms and ammunition was led by Major General Abduhalim Nazarzoda, the country's deputy defence minister.

The authorities announced later that Nazarzoda had been dismissed of his duties "in connection with a crime committed."

Nazarzoda is said to be a member of the Islamic Renaissance Party of Tajikistan which the government closed down last week.

The Prosecutor General's Office has initiated a criminal case under preliminary investigation.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs asks all citizens to assist security forces in the arrest and prosecution of the terrorist group. Endit
