France's consumer confidence stable in August

France's consumer confidence index (CCI) about the country's economic and financial situation was unchanged in August at 93 points from last month, the national statistics bureau, Insee, said on Friday.

Household appreciation for their past and future financial balance was unchanged at minus 28 and minus 12 respectively compared to July data. Their willingness to make major purchases improved by one point to minus 12.

For the third consecutive month, households' sentiment for economic outlook was stable as well as for past situation, the report added.

As to unemployment rate, fewer people predicted for an increase of unemployment in the future with the index decreased by 3 points to 52.

Household opinions showed more anticipation of growing inflation pressure and less willingness to save as consumers saving capacity index in the next lost 3 points to minus 11.

France, Europe's second largest economy, is currently in torrid battle to narrow its widening budge deficit and boost economic growth.

It has targeted more than 1 percent growth this year, and also pledged to narrow down this year's deficit to 3.8 percent of its GDP by improving competitiveness and squeezing public spending. Endit
