Ex-Brazil striker Oliveira scores brace in Santos win

Xinhua, September 4, 2015 Adjust font size:

Former Brazil international striker Ricardo Oliveira scored twice as Santos defeated Chapecoense in Brazil's Serie A championship on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old struck either side of halftime and missed a penalty at Santos' Vila Belmiro stadium. Geuvanio also scored for the hosts before Neto pulled back a late goal for Chapecoense.

Oliveira has 14 goals from 21 matches this season and is by far the competition's top scorer.

Santos are now eighth in the 20-team standings, just three points shy of fourth-placed Atletico Paranaense.

In Wednesday's only other match, Bobo and Pedro Neves were on target in Gremio's 2-0 defeat of Figueirense.

The result consolidated third place for the Porto Alegre outfit while Figueirense fell to 14th. Endi
