Tokyo stocks rise 1.42 pct. in morning following broadly firm U.S. data

Tokyo stocks rose 1.42 percent on Thursday morning as investor sentiment was boosted by firm U.S. data.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average gained 257.58 points, from Wednesday to end the morning at 18,352.98. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange gained 26. 56 points, or 1.81 percent, to 1,492.55.

Every industry category on the main section gained ground, with insurance, pharmaceuticals and glass and ceramics leading gainers. Endi
