Swedish police arrest five in Malmo drug raids

Xinhua, September 3, 2015 Adjust font size:

Swedish police carried out several drug raids in the southern city of Malmo on Wednesday following a spate of grenade attacks that stretch back several months.

Some 20 officers raided four houses and arrested five people suspected of narcotics crimes, public broadcaster Swedish Television reported.

"A lot of narcotics have been found but I will not say how much. It's due to the recent grenade explosions and the drugs trade that has been happening," Spokesperson Calle Persson told the channel.

Persson added that the quantity of drugs suggested it was intended for personal use.

Several shootings and around 30 explosions, a third of which were from hand grenades, have been reported in Malmo so far this year. Police have been granted additional resources to quell the violence. Endit
