Xi meets foreign leaders on eve of V-Day celebrations

Chinese president Xi Jinping on Wednesday evening met with leaders of foreign countries and international organizations who are visiting China to attend V-Day celebrations on Thursday.

Xi Jinping, with his wife Peng Liyuan, welcomed leaders and their spouses attendance at the celebrations, which shows their support to the Chinese people, the respect to history and their love for peace.

The solemn celebrations are aimed at joining the world in remembering history and martyrs, cherishing peace and creating the future, Xi said at the event.

Foreign leaders and international organizations extended congratulations for the 70th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the World anti-Fascist War.

The Chinese people made huge sacrifices for and significant contributions to the final victory of the world anti-Fascist war. People of all countries should strengthen unity and cooperation to jointly safeguard international fairness, justice and world peace.
