-- German Chancellor Angela Merkel and visiting Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy called on Tuesday in Berlin for a uniform EU asylum policy to deal with the expanding refugee crisis in Europe.

-- Thomas Oppermann, parliamentary group leader of Germany's Social Democratic Party (SPD), has called upon SPD's ruling partner, the Union Parties led by German Chancellor Angela Merkel, to make a decision on a national immigration law by the end of the year in order to cope with the influx of asylum seekers more efficiently.
