At least eight people have been killed in violence over the past few days in the northeast Indian state of Manipur, said local media Wednesday.
The violence took place in the state's Churachandpur district, where a curfew has been imposed with heavily armed state and central forces personnel patrolling the streets, said the local daily The Hindu online.
Meanwhile, the state government reviewed the law and order situation on Tuesday night and a meeting of the unified command of troops and police forces was held in the office of Chief Minister, O.Ibobi Singh, said the report.
Border trade with neighboring Myanmar has been paralyzed as protesting students have imposed an indefinite blockade.
Internet was blocked in many parts of Manipur from Tuesday to check rampant misuse of social media, to cause communal flare up on burning issues.
Local TV channels reported that the protesters have been opposed to the passing of three bills in the state assembly, which seek to regulate the entry of outsiders, mainly from Myanmar, into the state through a permit system called the inner line permit. Endi
