Former 3,000m steeplechase world champion Dorcus Inzikuru on Tuesday said she is switching to marathon because of the many injuries that bar her from steeplechase.

Inzikuru told Xinhua in an interview that she has held consultations with her coaches who have advised her to change to marathon.

Inzikuru, who is also trying her luck in the political arena where she is aspiring to be a member of parliament in the country's 2016 general elections, said her target is now qualifying for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio.

The 33-year-old, who won the inaugural 3,000m steeplechase title at the 2005 World Championships in Helsinki said she is determined to combine politics and sports. Endit
