6 DR Congo soldiers killed in ambush

Xinhua, September 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Six Democratic Republic of Congo (DR Congo) soldiers were killed on Monday in an ambush that occurred at Rugari, some 50 km north of Goma in the east of the country.

Regional administrator Justin Mukanya confirmed the deaths of the six soldiers in this zone which is controlled by the Rwandan rebels, Democratic Forces for the Liberation of Rwanda (FDLR).

"A military truck was ambushed and attacked with a rocket in Rugari, leaving six soldiers dead," Mukanya told Xinhua, affirming that he was not in a position to identify the perpetrators of the attack.

Rocket attacks have become common against DR Congo soldiers in the east of the country. Last year, a senior army officer, Col. Mamadou Ndala, was killed in a rocket attack along Goma-Beni road by assailants who were identified as fighters of the Ugandan rebel group, Allied Democratic Forces. Endit
