Nomination close with Singapore's ruling party challenged on all parliamentary seats

Nomination for Singapore's General Election closed on Tuesday with the ruling People's Action Party (PAP) challenged in all available 89 parliamentary seats for the first time in the island-nation's history.

Singapore's Prime Minister, also PAP's Secretary-General Lee Hsien Loong led his team at a nomination center for Ang Mo Kio group representation constituencies(GRCs) Tuesday morning. While the opposition Workers' Party (WP) chief Low Thia Khiang was also there, leading a strong team to contest for the seats in Aljunied GRC.

Addressing supporters at Raffles Institution for his Ang Mo Kio GRC, Lee Hsien Long called on them to vote seriously for PAP to make sure that the ruling party can "work together with you, for you, for Singapore."

Meanwhile, WP's Low Thia Khiang said his party hopes that this election will make Singaporeans more aware of their future and " what they should decide for themselves."

PAP has unveiled its entire slate of 89 candidates in advance of Nomination Day, while the WP line-ups in its 10 battlegrounds on Tuesday morning.

The parliamentary seats were split into 16 GRCs, where the candidates from a contesting party is required to be fielded as a team, and 13 single member constituencies (SMCs).

The General Election polls have been set on Sept. 11. The party winning the general election will form the government. Endi
