Xinhua officially launches Facebook, Twitter platforms in French

Xinhua News Agency on Tuesday officially launched its Facebook and Twitter platforms in French, after a recent launch of the same platforms in English and Spanish.

Through its social media platforms, Xinhua reports on current affairs in different countries and regions, but more particularly on events in China. The reports cover political, economic, social, cultural and sports domains.

The coverage in French will be published on the Facebook page "Xinhua Chine Nouvelle" and on Twitter handle "Chine Nouvelle."

Through its Facebook and Twitter platforms, Xinhua News Agency aims to become one of the "windows" for those who love the language of Moliere to understand and follow what goes on around the world, especially in China.

The launch of Xinhua's social media platforms in French has been hailed by several senior personalities. They include former French Prime Minister Jean-Pierre Raffarin, the Speaker of Togo's Parliament Dama Dramani, Togo's Foreign Minister Robert Dussey, China's ambassador to the European Union Yang Yanyi and China's ambassador to Belgium Zhang Lijun.

Chinese diplomats said Xinhua's social media accounts in different languages will provide new windows for an objective view of China and the entire world.

While welcoming Xinhua's launch of Facebook and Twitter accounts in French, Raffarin noted in a video message that "it was very important for Xinhua News Agency to continue being active on social media platforms."

"I believe people are happy to have this type of rapid, simple and international mode of communication," he said, adding that "social media is helping promote mutual understanding in the 21st Century."

Founded in 1931, Xinhua News Agency is China's official national media, with correspondents deployed to all the four corners of the world, in Asia, Europe, Africa and Americas.

Thousands of Xinhua correspondents, working in the agency's 30-plus bureaus in China and close to 180 across the world, release news in form of articles, photos and videos on a 24-hour basis. Endit
