South Korean Koo Ja-cheol joins league rivals Augsburg

Xinhua, September 1, 2015 Adjust font size:

Augsburg sewed up the comeback of Mainz midfielder Koo Ja-cheol, both Bundesliga teams confirmed on Monday.

The 26-year-old midfielder rejoined Augsburg after inking a two-year deal that keeps him with the "Fuggerstaedter" until June 2017. The current contract contains an option for a long-term extension.

"After his departure from Augsburg we remain in regular contract with Koo Ja-cheol. We immediately grabbed the chance to sign him as he knows the club, the environment as well as the team and the coach," Augsburg's CEO Stefan Reuter said.

Augsburg's new arrival scored six goals in 36 official games in one year at Mainz. The midfielder received the jersey number 19.

"I have always felt comfortable at Augsburg and now I have the feeling of coming home. It is great that my transfer worked out at such short notice," the South Korean international said.

Augsburg meet German record champions Bayern Munich at the Bavarian derby on September 12. Endit
