China's stock market saw a weak performance on Monday, ending last week's winning streak, as the government intensifies efforts to crack down on market manipulation.

The benchmark Shanghai Composite Index dipped 0.82 percent to finish at 3,205.99 points, and the Shenzhen Component Index lost 2. 32 percent to close at 10,549.16 points.

Turnover on the two bourses remained anemic, indicating the market sentiment has yet to recover.

TOKYO -- Tokyo stocks closed 1.28 percent lower on Monday amid uncertainty about the U.S. monetary policy outlook and unexpectedly soft Japanese industrial output data in July.

The 225-issue Nikkei Stock Average was down 245.84 points, from Friday at 18.890.48. The broader Topix index of all First Section issues on the Tokyo Stock Exchange finished 12.75 points, or 0.82 percent, lower at 1,537.05.

The turnover was 2,746.00 billion yen (about 22.69 billion U.S. dollars

SYDNEY -- The Australian market capped off its worst month since the global financial crisis with a one percent decline on Monday, down 8.6 percent for the month of August.

At the close on Monday, the benchmark S&P/ASX200 index was 56.6 points, or 1.08 percent, lower at 5,207, while the broader All Ordinaries index was down 52.6 points, or 1.0 percent, at 5,222.1.

HONG KONG -- Taiwan's share prices closed up 1.94 percent on Monday with the weighted index up 155.74 points at 8,174.92, according to news reaching here from Taipei.

Turnover totaled 10.09 billion new Taiwan dollars (about 3.10 billion U.S. dollars) during the trading session.

HO CHI MINH CITY -- VN-Index, the stock market index of Ho Chi Minh (HCM) City bourse in south Vietnam, closed at 564.75 points on Monday, down 6.12 points, or 1.07 percent, against last Friday' s closing session.

About 127.965 million shares worth 2.245 trillion Vietnamese dong (VND) (102.58 million U.S. dollars) changed hands at the southern HCM City Stock Exchange. Prices of 80 stocks went up, 139 stocks fell down, while 62 stocks remained unchanged.

HONG KONG -- Hong Kong stocks moved up 58.19 points, or 0.27 percent to close at 21,670.58 points on Monday.

The benchmark Hang Seng Index traded between 21,399.62 and 21, 793.02. Turnover totaled 94.47 billion HK dollars (about 12.14 billion U.S. dollars).

VIENTIANE -- The Lao stock market finished on Monday down 0.06 percent against the previous trading day.

The Lao Securities Exchange composite index decreased by 0.72 points to 1,250.69. A total of 41,450 shares worth about 249 million Lao kip (about 31,000 U.S. dollars) changed hands at the stock market.

SINGAPORE -- Singapore stocks finished lower on Monday, with the benchmark Straits Times Index (STI) down 34.50 points, or 1.17 percent, to close at 2,921.44.

A total of 1.31 billion shares changed hands with turnover of 1. 36 billion Singapore dollars (960.1 million U.S. dollars).

JAKARTA -- Indonesian shares closed higher by 63.41 points, or 1.43 percent, to 4,509.61 on Monday.

Some 228,428 transactions were booked, involving 5.68 billion shares worth 6.35 trillion rupiah (about 452.84 million U.S. dollars).

HANOI -- Stock market index of Vietnam's capital Hanoi, HNX- Index, closed at 76.9 points on Monday, down 1.37 points, or 1.75 percent, against the previous trading session.

A total of some 44.202 million shares worth around 463.039 billion Vietnamese dong (some 21.24 million U.S. dollars) were traded at the Hanoi Stock Exchange on Monday, a decrease of 11.06 percent in volume and 16.67 percent in value against the previous trading session.

DHAKA -- Bangladesh's DSE (Dhaka Stock Exchange) Broad Index closed Monday at 4,768.67 points, down 22.31 points or about 0.15 percent from Sunday's finish.

Among a total of 316 issues traded, 72 registered gains and 205 suffered losses while 39 remained unchanged.

Total turnover decreased to about 3.51 billion taka (about 54. 04 million U.S. dollars) on Monday from about 4.22 billion taka on Sunday.

BANGKOK -- The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) index Monday moved up 16.47 points, or 1.21 percent to close at 1,382.41 points.

Some 11.99 billion shares worth 39.04 billion baht (about 1.09 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands.

MUMBAI -- Indian stocks closed lower on Monday.
