Nigeria confirms death of envoy in U.S.

Xinhua, August 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

Nigeria on Friday confirmed the death of Adebowale Ibidapo Adefuye, ambassador of the West African country to the United States.

In a terse statement, the ministry of foreign affairs said the sad event occurred in a hospital in the United States on Thursday, but did not state clearly the cause of his death.

Adefuye, 68, was in 2010 appointed Nigeria's envoy to the U.S. by former Nigerian leader Goodluck Jonathan. He was recalled to Nigeria after President Muhammadu Buhari took office in May and was waiting to hand over to a new ambassador when he suddenly died Thursday. Endit
