Santa's Finnish office to keep running with new partner

Xinhua, August 28, 2015 Adjust font size:

Santa Claus' high-profile office in northern Finland has found a new partner and will continue running year-round despite a recent financial crisis, said the municipality of Rovaniemi, home of the office.

The city's tourism authority said in a press release on Friday that Santa "is now in a partnership with the region's most experienced adventure service provider, Lapland Safaris."

Meanwhile, Lapland Safaris issued a statement saying that it acquired a majority stake in Dianordia ltd., which has been running the office since 1992.

"We want to make sure that the tale of Christmas and Santa Claus continues, evolves and lives well in the Santa Claus Village in the future," said Jyrki Niva, CEO of Lapland Safaris Group.

Earlier reports said Dianordia owned taxes of about 200,000 euros (around 225,000 U.S. dollars) to the government and was about to go bankrupt provided it could not solve the problem this week.

The office in Santa Claus Village, built right on the Arctic Circle in Rovaniemi, capital of the Finnish Lapland region, has received millions of visitors from around the world since 1985. Endite
